The profession of physiotherapy emerged in response to the need to restore functional impairments resulting from pandemics, wars, and trauma worldwide. Today, it has become one of the priority health professions due to the aging population, the increasing prevalence of chronic diseases, scientific and technological advancements, and the growing emphasis on health promotion and improvement of quality of life.
The Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation at the Faculty of Health Sciences, Istanbul Aydın University, was established with the aim of educating physiotherapists in line with a contemporary educational approach and adopts a science-based, practice-oriented, and student-centered education model. The curriculum is structured in accordance with the Bologna Process and includes basic sciences, clinical sciences, professional courses specific to physiotherapy and rehabilitation, research methodology, seminars, clinical practice, and clinical training courses.
Students who successfully complete the four-year undergraduate program graduate with the title of “Physiotherapist” and enter professional life as healthcare professionals who are capable of integrating theoretical knowledge with clinical practice, think critically, and apply evidence-based practices.
Physiotherapists provide preventive, promotive, and therapeutic interventions to enhance independence, improve functional capacity, and increase health-related quality of life in individuals whose movement and function are threatened by disease, injury, aging, or environmental factors. In healthy individuals, physiotherapists also play an active role in areas such as improving physical fitness, ergonomics, spine health, athlete health, and public health applications.
The professional scope of physiotherapists continues to expand and diversify. Graduates may work in public institutions affiliated with the Ministry of Health, private hospitals, rehabilitation centers, sports clubs, nursing homes, special education and rehabilitation centers, thermal and health centers, and home care service providers. In addition, they may
pursue academic careers by completing postgraduate education at the master’s and doctoral levels.
The Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation at the Faculty of Health Sciences, Istanbul Aydın University, aims to educate competent physiotherapists at both national and international levels through its academically qualified staff, strong clinical collaborations, and extensive practical training opportunities.
