Translation and Interpreting (Arabic)

In recent years, Türkiye’s political, commercial, cultural, and scientific relations and joint activities with Middle Eastern and other Arabic-speaking countries have significantly increased. This growing interaction at both regional and international levels has led to a rising demand for highly competent translators and interpreters proficient in both Turkish and Arabic, especially in sectors such as international trade companies, tourism agencies, tourism enterprises, engineering and architecture, law, business administration, logistics, finance, banking, media, publishing houses, copywriting, editing, news agencies, embassies and foreign representations, as well as various private institutions and organizations.

The Department of Arabic Translation and Interpreting educates translators who possess a strong command of Arabic—an international language—and who have acquired the ability to perform both written and oral translation. Students in this department receive education in various areas, including the structure of the Arabic language, terminology, literature, reading, writing, speaking, comprehension skills, as well as translation methods and techniques.

The aim of our department is to train translators with advanced language awareness, who perceive translation not merely as a linguistic activity but as an intercultural communication process; who possess strong proficiency in both Turkish and Arabic and their respective cultures; who have knowledge of translation techniques, practices, and theories; and who gain practical experience in written and oral translation by becoming familiar with the terminology and content knowledge of various disciplines.
