A DUAL MAJOR AGREEMENT HAS BEEN SIGNED BETWEEN THE HISTORY DEPARTMENT AND THE PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION DEPARTMENT OF THE FACULTY OF ECONOMICS AND ADMINISTRATIVE SCIENCES

On March 26, 2025, a Dual Degree Agreement was signed between the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences Public Administration Department and the History Department. Starting from the 2025-2026 academic year, students will be able to pursue a dual degree between the departments in accordance with the protocol agreement.

Under the auspices of the Council of Europe, UNESCO, and ICOM, the 19th European Museum Night will be celebrated in Europe this year, and the 18th in our country. “European Museum Night” event, which is being held for the 19th time in Europe and the 18th time in our country this year, under the auspices of the Council of Europe, UNESCO, and ICOM. As part of this event, the Archaeology Museums and the Museum of Turkish and Islamic Arts, which are affiliated with the Provincial Directorate of Culture and Tourism's Department of Cultural Heritage and Museums, will be open for free visits after regular closing hours on May 18, 2023, from 8:00 PM to 11:00 PM.

THE BALKANS AND TURKEY IN THE 100TH YEAR OF THE REPUBLIC

Turkish communities, known by various names, have interacted with all elements of this geography in political, military, economic, religious, and cultural terms for centuries within the borders of the Balkans, i.e., Southeast Europe. The Huns, Avars, Danube Bulgarians, Pechenegs, and Cumans migrated to this region from the northern Black Sea region. With the emergence of the Ottoman Turks, they made a strategic advance from Anatolia to these ancient lands from the mid-14th century onwards, ultimately establishing centuries of dominance.

This domination undoubtedly led to the multifaceted influence and interaction of the Turks in this geography and, as a result of this interaction, paved the way for the Turks to form an indispensable historical past with the Balkan nations.

Especially since the mid-20th century, researchers engaged in academic history in many countries around the world have conducted numerous scientific studies on the Turkish influence in the Balkan region in terms of politics, military, economy, religion, and culture, and these studies continue to increase today.

This symposium, organized by our University's Department of History and IAÜ ATAM, entitled “The Balkans and Turkey in the 100th Year of the Republic,” focuses on the political, military, economic, and religious influences of the Turks in the historical geography referred to as Southeast Europe or the Balkans, as well as their organization there. Understanding these influences and interpreting them with a micro-level historical approach is significant in terms of appreciating both Turkish history and the history of other elements that Turks came into contact with in the aforementioned geography.
