Dear students and student candidates,
The Social Work Department at Istanbul Aydın University aims to train competent social workers who possess the knowledge, skills, and values of social work, are sensitive to the changing and diverse problems of society, and can fulfill the functions of social work, with expertise in both theory and practice, thanks to its competent academic/teaching staff. Social work is a practice-based profession and academic discipline that supports the empowerment and liberation of individuals, families, groups, and communities, develops their coping capacities, and prioritizes social integration through the achievement of psychosocial functioning. Social work education is also an educational process designed using a broad perspective and various theories and research designs, based on the principles of social justice, human rights, and respect for diversity.
In our department, theoretical and applied courses are combined to prepare students for research, investigation, and critical thinking; while applied courses enable the transfer of theoretical knowledge into practice, fostering professional skills and behaviors. Throughout the education process, students prepare for their profession with academic advisors in various social work institutions regarding the methods of the social work profession, such as social individual work, social group work, community work, and social work management; and in applied research courses, they gain experience in producing scientific knowledge in social work fields based on a social problem. In addition to the four-year undergraduate program, the Social Work Department at Istanbul Aydın University also offers a master's program. Furthermore, our students have the opportunity to study and intern in different European countries through Erasmus programs. In this context, with education supported by professional English courses, students are able to begin their professional lives as visionary social workers/social service professionals who can follow international literature and developments.
