Dear Scholars,

We cordially invite academics to the "1st International Congress on Society and Culture," which will be held in Istanbul between May 16–17, 2023. The Congress is jointly organized by the Department of Sociology at Istanbul Aydin University and the Institute of Comparative Religious and Anthropological Research at Tlemcen University, Algeria.

Turkey and the North African countries, particularly Algeria, are Mediterranean nations that have influenced each other socio-culturally, historically, politically, and geographically. During the Ottoman Empire period, they shared 400 years of common political, economic, cultural, and social history. The historical, political, social, economic, and cultural ties between Turkey and the North African countries have continued since ancient times. Although this history was politically interrupted after the imperialist occupation, the socio-cultural memory sustained the cultural partnership. In the modern era, this cultural and social partnership across the Mediterranean continues today through the agency of different states. Cooperation in the fields of education, economy, art, tourism, and shared historical memory remains vibrant.

The contemporary situation of the region's societies, characterized today as Arab and Turkish societies, is a subject worthy of scientific study in terms of mutual interactions. Cultural assets inherited from the Ottoman period are still actively present in the region. The comparative examination of material and spiritual cultural practices has always fostered the emergence of creative scientific environments. This congress is open to all studies of mutual cultural existence, focusing primarily on North Africa and Turkey. The reciprocal study of Mediterranean cultures has always been of interest in anthropology, sociology, and historical research. Scientifically demonstrating and discussing the traces of mutual anthropological, social, economic, and cultural interactions between cultures and societies will make a significant scholarly contribution to the fields of Anthropology, Sociology, Linguistics, and Social History. In line with these objectives, we will be delighted to welcome you to present your scientific research on this topic.
