The admission procedures for recognizing existing education, including formal and non-formal learning, are still at an early stage of development in Türkiye, and there is not yet a comprehensive and sufficient legal framework at the national level in this regard. However, within the framework of institutional autonomy, there are certain institutional practices for assigning credits that allow exemptions from some program requirements based on the principles of Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL).
In particular, within these practices implemented at a comprehensive level, students who possess prior knowledge and skills in areas such as foreign languages or computer use before entering the university are required to take an examination. Students who are deemed sufficiently successful by the program to which they are admitted may be exempted from the relevant parts of the curriculum. In addition, RPL is also applied to students who wish to transfer horizontally—either domestically or internationally—to another institution at an equivalent or higher level in their field of study. In such cases, students may be exempted from courses that are the same as or similar to those they have previously taken and successfully completed, subject to the approval of the program's adaptation (credit transfer) committee.
Similar admission procedures are widely implemented at our university. Regulations concerning the general admission conditions for such practices are outlined in the relevant sections of the Education and Examination Regulations, the Regulations on Graduate Programs, and the Regulations on Horizontal Transfer Students.
